The FDGB (Free German Trade Union Confederation) rest home "Hermann Duncker" was built in 1909 in the villa colony at Barenberg Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains as "Villa Park Forest." In World War I it served as a hospital and after that is was "spa Barenberger court." The extension of the dining room completed in 1924. Between World War I and II it was a rest home. After 1945 the house was a rest home and was first called the FDGB rest home "Barenberg", in the 50's the name changed to "rest home unit" and in the 60'ss finally changed the name to rest home "Hermann Duncker".
